Medically Guided Search® ... only from Healthline
Healthline's focus on health information search - one of the most difficult information retrieval processes known - has resulted in the development of a comprehensive set of tools and solutions that address all aspects of finding, managing and understanding health content and data.
Access to the world's largest and most intricately-classified medical taxonomy is a key competitive advantage, and the ability to truly understand the meaning of an inquiry and the intent of the search – regardless of the starting point or typed term - is central to every search solution Healthline offers. At its core, Medically Guided Search consists of a terminology database that contains more that 2 million consumer-friendly terms, abbreviations/acronyms and their preferred medical equivalent, and a concept-based approach to search which recognizes queries based on medical relationships, not simple keyword analysis.
Healthline has spent more than twelve years working with doctors and medical informatics specialists to develop health search solutions to satisfy the needs of health information seekers with the highest degree of medical precision and accuracy. Medically Guided Search is built of following components:
Semantic Medical Ontology
Healthline's medical ontology consists of nearly 700,000 health-related concepts - the largest known consumer health taxonomy - and is the basis for all Healthline search products and HealthSTAT, the company's Medically Guided advertising targeting platform. This semantic ontology gives Healthline the unique ability to crawl, index and map health content and data from a myriad of disparate sources and surface all related information, with the highest degree of medical accuracy and precision, whether it's on a search results page, a health article page that includes contextually relevant facets and widgets, or in clinical tools used by medical professionals.
Medically Speaking™
When a user searches for a lay term such as "brittle bone disease" Healthline automatically presents (and searches on) the appropriate medical term (in this case, “osteogenesis imperfecta”). Thus users gain comfort in that they are searching for relevant medical information and gain exposure to articles they may have missed.
HealthMaps®
HealthMaps offer a visually-based search experience that provides users with graphical overviews for more than 3,000 diseases and conditions, making it easy for consumers to quickly understand related concepts and drill down to contextually relevant sub-topics such as tests, risk factors, treatments and more with a single click of the mouse.
API | Code Drop | Co-Brand
All of the functionality outlined above is available through a REST-based API for easy integration with third-party solutions and offerings; Healthline can also provide its services as an ASP (i.e., co-brand), and, if necessary, can deploy behind a corporate firewall. Full documentation is available upon request.
